Speech Matters was founded with one belief: every person deserves access to the highest standard of evidence-based speech therapy, delivered by experienced therapists with genuine warmth.
Our Founder
Founder & Lead Speech-Language Therapist
Sin Yong founded Speech Matters in 2006 following her return to Singapore after completing her studies as a Public Service Commission (PSC) Overseas Merit Scholar. Her vision was clear: to create a practice where clinical rigour and genuine human warmth existed together.
She is an Adjunct Professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, an international conference speaker, and an active contributor to the advancement of speech therapy practice across Asia-Pacific.
Under her leadership, Speech Matters has grown into one of Singapore’s most trusted practices, serving over 2,000 individuals and families across paediatric and adult populations.
“I wanted to create a practice where evidence and warmth existed together — where families are supported, achieve outcomes, not just processed.”

As founder of Speech Matters, Sin Yong brings over twenty years of clinical leadership to every aspect of the practice. A PSC Overseas Merit Scholar and Adjunct Professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, she has shaped the clinical direction and standards of Speech Matters since 2006. Prior to this, she was the head of department at a local tertiary hospital and also gained clinical experience while practicing in major hospitals in Sydney. Her practice spans the full range of paediatric and adult conditions, with particular depth in autism, swallowing disorders, voice, and adult aphasia. Families who have worked with Sin Yong consistently describe her as rigorous, warm, and deeply invested in outcomes that last beyond the clinic.
Serene brings more than two decades of specialist paediatric experience, with particular expertise in early communication and autism spectrum disorder. She is both Hanen-certified and trained in TEACCH โ a structured teaching approach widely used for children with ASD โ giving her an unusually broad clinical toolkit. Parents often remark on her ability to quickly build rapport with children who are reluctant or anxious, and her skill in translating clinical strategies into practical, sustainable routines for the whole family.
With over twelve years of specialist experience in adult neurological rehabilitation, Yanni works extensively with stroke survivors, individuals with progressive neurological conditions, and adults navigating swallowing and communication difficulties. Her clinical work is grounded in the latest evidence in aphasia rehabilitation and dysphagia management, including instrumental swallowing assessment. Families describe her approach as calm, thorough, and reassuring โ particularly valued when working with elderly patients and their caregivers. Yanni also enjoys working with students who have difficulties with literacy or social communication. Yanni is an accredited clinical supervisor for the local university programmes.
Jasmine specialises in children with autism spectrum disorder and significant speech delay, with a strong foundation in play-based intervention. She holds a number of relevant certifications - which have equipped her with the skills and knowledge to help children with speech and language delay. She often employs Floortime and the Learn to Play approach โ which are structured, evidence-based programmes that builds the play skills children need as a foundation for communication and social development. She meets children exactly where they are, building trust and connection before introducing any formal therapeutic demands. Families describe her sessions as joyful and purposeful in equal measure.
Yuhui works with young children with autism and speech delay, with a particular focus on early intervention โ the period when therapy has the greatest long-term impact. Certified in the Learn to Play, Hanen, and FloorTime approaches, she uses structured play to develop the foundational skills that underpin communication: attention, imitation, symbolic thinking, and joint engagement. She works closely with parents throughout, equipping them with the confidence and strategies to continue progress between sessions and in everyday life. Parents' feedback often reflect their appreciation of fun and stress-less sessions.
Emily specialises in children with language delay, and communication difficulties. She is Hanen-certified and works closely with parents to build strategies that fit naturally into daily family life. She has particular experience supporting children across the early intervention and pre-school years, and collaborates closely with early intervention centres and MOE schools to ensure consistent support across settings. Emily worked in a hospital setting in Australia prior to moving to Singapore. She also enjoys working with adults and seniors with communication and swallowing difficulties.
Our Standards
Choosing a speech therapist is an important decision. We want you to understand exactly what qualifications and standards you should expect — and what Speech Matters delivers.
If you have any questions about a specific therapist’s qualifications or experience, please ask us directly. We are always happy to match you with the right person for your situation.
Every Speech Matters therapist is registered with the Allied Health Professions Council of Singapore (AHPC). AHPC registration is the gold standard for allied health in Singapore โ it requires degree-level qualifications, supervised clinical practice, and ongoing professional development. You can verify any therapist's registration at the AHPC website.
Our paediatric team holds Hanen certification โ a rigorous, internationally recognised qualification in family-centred language intervention. Hanen-certified therapists have demonstrated competency in It Takes Two to Talk (for language delay) and More Than Words (for autism). Together with FloorTime certification, our therapists are able to select the best approaches to support children with the communication development.
All Speech Matters therapists hold a minimum of a Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited university. Several hold additional postgraduate specialisation in areas such as dysphagia, autism, and adult neurological rehabilitation.
Our therapists attend national and international conferences, maintain continuing professional development (CPD) hours as required by AHPC, and participate in regular clinical supervision and case review. We do not stand still.
All therapists, regardless of experience level, participate in regular clinical supervision. This ensures consistent quality of care across every client, every session, at every level of seniority.

What We Stand For
These are the three commitments that guide every decision we make, every session we deliver, every family we work with.
We use only approaches that have been proven to work through rigorous clinical research. Every therapy technique is grounded in the latest international evidence — not trends or guesswork. When we recommend something, we can tell you why.
Therapy works best when families are fully involved. We share strategies, explain our reasoning, and make sure parents and caregivers feel confident and equipped. You will never be on the outside looking in.
No two people are the same. Every child or adult receives a plan built around their unique strengths, challenges, goals, and family circumstances. We do not run cookie-cutter programmes. Ever.
How We Work
Our approach is built on decades of clinical research and real-world experience across Singapore. We use internationally recognised therapeutic frameworks, but always adapt them to the individual.
We never prescribe a fixed programme. Every assessment, every session, every goal is built around that person and their family — not a template.
We are here to listen, answer your questions, and guide you to the right next step. No question is too small.
One of Singapore's most experienced speech therapy practices.
